Medina, the second-holiest city in Islam, has welcomed its first-ever cinema with a bang. Empire Cinemas, a leading multiplex chain in Saudi Arabia, has set up shop in Al Rashid Mall, offering a whole cinematic experience to the residents of the city.
The cinema, which is the 10th Empire Cinema branch in the country, boasts of 10 screens and a capacity of 764 seats. It also features a children’s theatre, a play area, and the SCREEN X technology that allows viewers to enjoy a movie with 270 degrees across a large two-sided screen.
The cinema opened with the blockbuster film Jawan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Nayanthara, and Vijay Sethupathi in its 11th week. The film, which is a high-octane action thriller about a man who is set to rectify the wrongs in the society, has been creating waves across the world since its release on September 7, 2023.
Jawan, which is directed by Atlee and produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, has received critical acclaim for its cast performances, screenwriting, action sequences, and musical score. The film has also set several box-office records for a Hindi film, grossing over ₹1,148 crore (US$140 million) worldwide.
The film has been dubbed in Tamil and Telugu, and has been released in standard, IMAX, 4DX, and other premium formats. The film has also been screened in Medina with Arabic subtitles, catering to the diverse audience of the city.
The craze for Jawan in Medina is evident from the fact that the film is sold out for today and tomorrow, even in its 11th week of running. The cinema-goers have been flocking to the Empire Cinemas to catch a glimpse of their favourite star and enjoy the thrilling story.

In the year 2023, Shah Rukh Khan achieved remarkable success with two blockbuster movies, Pathaan and Jawan. The film made an astounding worldwide box office collection of approximately 1150 crores, with the Hindi version alone amassing over 590 crores nett.

Shah Rukh’s Jawan made smashing debut on Netflix as film was number 2 in terms of viewing hours (15.9 millions) and number 2 in terms of views (5.2 millions). This film broke record of Gangubai Kathiawadi. Alia Bhatt starrer with 13.8 million viewing hours was biggest Indian film (non netflix).
Film defeated highest week record of RRR which was 18.4 million viewing hours. Now film has surpassed all records and clocked highest ever 25 Million hours in 10 days, this is HIGHEST ever for Hindi film ever! Film is number 3 non English content worldwide.
