John Abraham Starts Filming Guru As Ribhu Dasgupta Unveils A Mind-Bending Psychological Thriller

John Abraham is heading into dangerous psychological territory with Guru, a new Hindi thriller that puts memory, perception and trust at the center of the story. Principal photography has now begun on the Ribhu Dasgupta directorial, setting up a film that trades certainty for unease and gives Abraham a distinctly darker canvas to work with.

Guru also stars Danish Pandor, Arif Zakaria and Kitu Gidwani. The film is produced by Authum Entertainment, Shibasish Sarkar, JA Entertainment and Fusion Flicks.

At the heart of the story is a man who begins to realize that something in his world is deeply wrong, and that his memory and reality are no longer moving together. As strange events gather around him, he starts questioning his own perception and the people he can rely on. The film leans into paranoia, emotional instability and atmospheric tension, placing psychological dread ahead of conventional action beats.

Guru Begins Production

The film marks a significant collaboration for Abraham and Dasgupta, whose storytelling instincts have long gravitated toward moody, layered thrillers. That creative pairing gives Guru added weight at a moment when Abraham is continuing to widen the kind of material he takes on.

Dasgupta said, “The world of ‘Guru’ is unsettling. Anything which has depth in terms of story, treatment and performance, at the same time gives you something to relish, excites and challenges a filmmaker. I have been wanting to collaborate with John for a long time and ‘Guru’ is that script with that destiny.”

Abraham added, “‘Guru’ is the kind of story that stays with you long after you’ve read it. What drew me to the film was the uncertainty at its core, when you can’t trust your own memory, reality itself becomes a question. The storyline is layered, unsettling and deeply intriguing, and I’m excited for audiences to experience it.”

Ribhu Dasgupta Returns To Familiar Terrain

That sense of uncertainty has become one of Dasgupta’s defining strengths as a filmmaker. His earlier work on Te3n, Girl on the Train and the series Bard of Blood established a screen language rooted in unease, secrets and psychological pressure.

Seen in that context, Guru feels like a natural extension of his creative world. Dasgupta is also attached to Section 84, which is listed for release in November 2026, reinforcing how firmly his recent body of work remains tied to suspense-driven storytelling.

John Abraham’s Recent And Upcoming Work

For Abraham, Guru lands at an interesting moment in his career. After Vedaa in 2024 and The Diplomat and Tehran in 2025, he has continued to balance star-led commercial films with projects powered by tension and conflict.

That makes Guru more than just another addition to his lineup. It sits alongside Force 3, which began filming in 2026, and strengthens a phase in which Abraham is choosing stories that push beyond his established action image and into more psychologically loaded space.
