John Abraham is all set to play Rakesh Maria, one of India’s most respected police officers, in an upcoming biopic directed by Rohit Shetty. Shetty, known for his action-packed cop films like Singham, Simmba, and Sooryavanshi, is now stepping into real-life storytelling.
This will be his first biopic, and fans are excited to see how he brings Maria’s journey to the big screen.
John Abraham In Rakesh Maria Biopic
According to a Peeping Moon report, the film will follow Rakesh Maria’s life and career. It will highlight his role in some of India’s most challenging investigations. He was a key figure in solving the 1993 Mumbai blasts case and played an important role during the 26/11 terror attacks. The biopic is based on Maria’s memoir Let Me Say It Now, which gives a detailed insight into his experiences in law enforcement.
John Abraham, who has played a cop before in Batla House, is expected to bring intensity to the role. A source shared, “The actor-director duo has always desired to work together, and they are especially excited to work on this particular subject.”
Filming Expected To Begin In March & Wrap Up By June
The film is currently in pre-production. Shetty is working closely with Maria to ensure accuracy in the storytelling. Filming is set to begin in mid-March and will be completed in a tight 45-day schedule. The team plans to finish shooting by June 2025. After that, Shetty will move on to directing Khatron Ke Khiladi and later Golmaal 5.
This project is a major change for Shetty, who is known for his larger-than-life police dramas. With Maria’s real-life story and Shetty’s signature style, the film promises to be a thrilling watch.
John is no stranger to playing real-life characters. In Batla House, he portrayed Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, inspired by the 2008 Batla House encounter case. His upcoming film The Diplomat will also feature him in a real-life role as JP Singh, the diplomat who helped bring Uzma Ahmed back to India in 2017.
