Directed by Shivam Nair, The Diplomat is based on a real-life mission led by Indian diplomat JP Singh. He was instrumental in rescuing Uzma Ahmed, an Indian woman stranded in Pakistan in 2017.
The film also honours the late Sushma Swaraj, India’s former Minister of External Affairs, who played a key role in bringing Uzma back home.
John Abraham (known for action-heavy roles) takes a different approach in The Diplomat. Instead of stunts and chases, he focuses on strategy, negotiation, and intelligence. The film sheds light on the intense diplomatic efforts behind Uzma’s rescue.
