The YRF Spy Universe is expanding with a prequel to the blockbuster Pathan, which featured Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in the lead roles.
The prequel will focus on the origin story of Jim, the villainous character played by John Abraham in Pathaan. And the cherry on the cake is that Hrithik Roshan‘s Kabir from War may also make an appearance in the film. Isn’t that exciting for the fans of the spy thriller genre?

Pathaan prequel to focus on Jim’s origin story, prep in works
John Abraham, who impressed the audience with his negative role as Jim in Pathaan, is all set to headline his own spy film. This was revealed by Pathaan director Siddharth Anand in one of his interviews. Siddharth also hinted at the possibility of a crossover with Hrithik Roshan’s Kabir from War (2019). This idea was actually conceived by Yash Raj’s boss, Aditya Chopra. Well, it is reported by Times Now that the prequel is indeed in the works.
The film will explore Jim’s back story and how he became a ruthless spy. The pre-production work has started and the details are being finalized. The film is expected to go on floors next year.
John Abraham has been confirmed for the prequel and it will be interesting to see if Hrithik Roshan will also join the cast. The YRF Spy Universe has been a huge success with characters like Tiger (Salman Khan), Zoya (Katrina Kaif), Kabir (Hrithik Roshan), Pathan (Shah Rukh Khan), Rubai (Deepika Padukone), Khalid (Tiger Shroff) and Naina Varma (Vaani Kapoor).
Siddharth Anand had hinted on a potential prequel
Siddharth Anand had earlier talked about the potential of a prequel and said, “It should be, but it’s too early to talk about anything. I feel, Jim’s character does warrant a prequel.”
He had also discussed the idea of a crossover between John’s Jim and Hrithik’s Kabir and said, “Ya, why not, anything can happen. It’s a universe (YRF Spy Universe) and you can do anything with the characters – it’s a playground. You can have a prequel to Jim.. oh wait, what if Jim is not dead? What if there’s a harness that pulls a parachute?”
