The Jolly LLB franchise, which started in 2013 with Arshad Warsi as the titular lawyer, has been one of the most successful and critically acclaimed comedy-drama series in Bollywood. The first two films, Jolly LLB and Jolly LLB 2, dealt with various social issues such as corruption, terrorism, and fake encounters, through the lens of courtroom drama and satire. The films also featured some memorable performances by Saurabh Shukla as Judge Tripathi, who won a National Award for his role in the first film.
Subhash Kapoor’s Jolly LLB franchise is back with a bang
Now, the fans of the franchise have a reason to rejoice as the third installment of the series is all set to go on floors in February 2024. What’s more, the film will bring together Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi, who played the lead roles in Jolly LLB 2 and Jolly LLB respectively, for the first time on screen. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the film will present a clash between good and evil within the context of a courtroom. The report also stated that Subhash Kapoor has completed the screenplay and will kick off the pre-production at the end of this year.
Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi to fight against each other in court
The report further revealed that Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi will be seen as rival lawyers in Jolly LLB 3, who will fight against each other in court over a pertinent social issue. The film will also retain Saurabh Shukla as Judge Tripathi, who will preside over the case. The film is expected to offer an engaging courtroom drama with the perfect blend of humor, suspense, and debate.
The report quoted a source close to the development as saying, “Subhash Kapoor has ingeniously crafted a storyline that justifies the presence of both Jollys, and they are excited about returning to the courtroom setting after a six-year hiatus.” The source also added that the film will be shot over a two-month straight schedule in Madhya Pradesh, targeting a theatrical release in late 2024.
Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi to collaborate on Welcome 3 before Jolly LLB 3
Before Jolly LLB 3, Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi will also be seen together in another comedy franchise, Welcome. The Welcome series, which started in 2007 with Akshay Kumar, Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar, Paresh Rawal, Katrina Kaif, and Mallika Sherawat, followed by Welcome Back in 2015 with John Abraham replacing Akshay Kumar, is being rebooted with a fresh cast and characters. The third film of the series, titled Welcome to the Jungle, will feature Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Raveena Tandon, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Disha Patani in lead roles.
According to a report, Welcome to the Jungle will be an adventure comedy set in a jungle where the characters will face various challenges and dangers. The report also stated that the film will go on floors around November 2023 and hit theaters during Christmas 2024.
Akshay Kumar has a robust lineup of eight films scheduled for the coming two years. He has already finished four films: Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, The Great Indian Rescue, the Soorarai Pottru remake, and the C. Shankaran Nair biopic. He is currently filming Dinesh Vijan’s aerial action thriller Sky Force in Sitapur.
