Kajol Calls Ramoji Film City “Haunted” – Faces Backlash, Clarifies Remarks
Bollywood actress Kajol is currently on a promotional spree for her film Maa, and she found herself in the middle of a social media uproar earlier this week when she stated that Ramoji Film City is “one of the most haunted places in the world”. During a candid chat, Kajol’s comments drew a lot of ire from Telugu cinema fans and locals from Hyderabad.
Kajol’s ‘Haunted’ Comment Sparks Uproar
In her interview, Kajol revealed:
“I’ve shot at places where I was uneasy at. I couldn’t sleep. Ramoji Film City is one of the most haunted places in the world.”
While Kajol did clarify in the interview that she personally hasn’t seen a ghost, her comment about the energy of the place disturbed many fans — especially considering the fact that Ramoji Film City is one of India’s iconic and often visited tourist spots.
Kajol Responds On Social Media To The Backlash
In a barrage of criticism, Kajol posted on X (previously Twitter):
“I want to clarify my previous comment regarding Ramoji Film City in the context of promoting my movie MAA. I have shot several projects at Ramoji Film City and I’ve stayed there on many occasions. I have always found it to be a very professional filmmaking environment, and I have seen countless tourists there having a great time. It is a fantastic location and completely safe for families and children.”
Her clarification was a means of softening hurt feelings, and while some fans were able to appreciate a fair response, others were not swayed.

One user wrote, “But why did you say differently then?”
-
Another supported her reply with, “You are one of the few honest actors in the industry who can call a spade a spade.”
-
A third user had a tongue-in-cheek reply, “Capitalism prevails always lol. I was fully expecting this reaction from you.”
Over the years, many Bollywood and regional stars have had ghostly encounters while filming at Ramoji Film City, but none have publicly stated it was ‘haunted’ as Kajol recently did.
Despite the drama, the film city remains a highly sought-out place for filming, as well as a popular tourist destination known for its scale, film sets, and guided studio tours.
Kajol’s Focus Is On Maa
Kajol is actively promoting Maa, her new emotional film that will be released on June 27, 2025. The actress had a recent appearance at a hangout for a fan connect and opportunity to share her thoughts and insights from the film. Maa is a film on motherhood, sacrifices and crossing generations, with Kajol in one of the powerful leads.
Box Office Worldwide Verdict
While the media buzzed about Kajol’s comment on Ramoji Film City, her quick and respectful clarification showed how mature she is as a star and that she has the ability to be pan-India in appeal. Even though the haunted tag stuck, with Kajol’s steady response and thoroughness, her promotions of Maa will continue on in good order.
As for Ramoji Film City — it retains its cinematic enchantment and intrigue, now touched upon by momentary madness.
