Kajol On Maa 2: ‘We’re just thinking about it’, Actress Hints At Shaitaan Crossover

Months after Maa hit theatres, Kajol is back talking about the film, and this time, it is the future of the franchise that has horror fans leaning in. The actor, who headlined the mythological horror as a mother fighting a demonic force to save her daughter, says the team has had early conversations about taking the story forward, but nothing has been locked yet.

Latest Update: Kajol Says Maa Sequel Talks Are Still In Early Stages

Asked if a sequel has been set in motion, Kajol pointed to producer Ajay Devgn as the key person driving the decision. “You have to ask Ajay Devgn this because he is the one producing it. But honestly, we’re just thinking about it. There’s nothing concrete,” she said.

Kajol had earlier maintained she would be open to returning if Maa performed well, and her latest comment suggests the makers are keeping the door open without rushing into an announcement.

The actor also spoke about how intense the filming experience was, revealing that the climax left a lasting impact on her. “I have PTSD [Post Traumatic Stress Disorder] from the climax shoot. I think when we shoot [such intense] films, they alter us,” she shared.

Shaitaan Universe Crossover Still Not Confirmed

Maa was positioned as part of the same universe as Ajay Devgn’s 2024 supernatural thriller Shaitaan, which starred Devgn, R Madhavan, Jyotika and Janki Bodiwala. So, naturally, the next big question is whether the two stories might eventually collide.

Kajol said the makers have considered that idea too, but stressed that nothing is decided. “We’ve thought about it. Everything is up in the air right now,” she said, keeping expectations in check while confirming that conversations have taken place.

About Maa

Directed by Vishal Furia, Maa released theatrically on June 27, 2025. The film starred Kajol in the lead along with Ronit Roy, Indraneil Sengupta and Kherin Sharma. Kajol’s Recent And Upcoming Work

In recent years, Kajol has expanded her choices across formats. In 2023, she led the legal drama series The Trial (Disney+ Hotstar). In 2024, she appeared in Netflix’s Do Patti, sharing the screen with Kriti Sanon. Most recently, she headlined Maa (2025), stepping into the Shaitaan universe with a horror-led role.

Among her announced projects, Kajol is also part of Sarzameen, directed by Kayoze Irani, co-starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Ibrahim Ali Khan, and the film Maharagni: Queen of Tears, which also features Prabhudeva, Naseeruddin Shah and Jisshu Sengupta.
