Reflecting on the screenplay, Johar said, “I consider it one of the strongest screenplays developed, written by Sumit Roy, full credit to him. I believe it is the best-written piece of work in my career, and I hope to make that film one day.”
When Takht was first announced in 2018, it instantly stood out as one of Dharma Productions’ most ambitious titles. Conceived as a Mughal era drama around a battle for the throne, it assembled a striking cast that included Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Bhumi Pednekar, Janhvi Kapoor, and Anil Kapoor. Ranveer Singh and Vicky Kaushal were attached to play Aurangzeb and Dara Shikoh, giving the project added dramatic weight from the start.
The film was once positioned for a December 2021 release, but that phase passed as production plans shifted in the aftermath of the pandemic.
