Dharma Productions has had a significant and exciting development coming up. Karan Johar has handed over the directing duties for Shanaya Kapoor’s debut feature to Shashank Khaitan, one of his most loyal collaborators. It’s a new franchise film that’s going to be tremendously produced. In addition to Shanaya, KJo will also introduce Gurfateh Singh Pirzada and Lakshya in this film.
In March, KJo revealed the ambitious launchpad for Sanjay and Maheep Kapoor’s daughter, with the goal of getting it on floors by July. The film was, however, postponed after the second Covid wave swept the country, putting Bollywood on the back foot once more. The Dharma Productions endeavour is ready to get off the ground now that normalcy has returned and shooting has resumed in full speed. And, according to the latest reports, Khaitan will direct it, with Shanaya, Gurfateh, and Lakshya in the key roles.
Shanaya’s cousin Janhvi Kapoor’s debut film Dhadak was also directed by Khaitan for Dharma Productions. Shanaya will star alongside Guilty actor Gurfateh Pirzada and newcomer Lakshya Lalwani in this lighthearted urban triangle love story. Lakshya was supposed to make his debut in KJo’s now-deferred Dostana 2 co-starring Janhvi Kapoor.
The three actors are claimed to have attended a number of acting seminars over the last seven months and will begin filming in Mumbai in December. In the previous few months, the film appears to have undergone a significant transformation. According to sources, the rom-com was originally set to be directed by Paras Chakravarti, with Khaitan only serving as a producer. Khaitan has already taken over the project and will begin planning it soon.
Chakravarti’s successor is thought to have been mutually agreed upon. According to sources, KJo wanted an experienced director to introduce Shanaya and asked Khaitan to do so because he was also involved in the creative components of the film and had previously launched Janhvi and Ishaan Khatter with Dhadak in 2018.
