Karan Johar On Shah Rukh Khan & Aryan Khan: Filmmaker Reveals The One ‘Madly Passionate’ Quality The Father-Son Duo Share

Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan‘s friendship is one of the most iconic in Bollywood. In a recent interview, the filmmaker gave a special insight into his bond with the superstar and also revealed a striking similarity between SRK and his son, Aryan Khan, when it comes to their work.

Speaking on Komal Nahta’s show ‘Game Changers’, Karan, who recently acted in Aryan’s directorial debut The Ba*ds of Bollywood, praised the father-son duo’s incredible commitment to their craft.

‘Madly, Obsessively Passionate’ About Filmmaking

When asked to name one quality that Shah Rukh and Aryan share, Karan Johar didn’t hesitate. He revealed that their passion for filmmaking is practically identical. He said both are “crazily, equally, madly, obsessively passionate about every shot in every scene.”

He added that Aryan is just as intense as his father, saying, “Aryan goes berserk if he doesn’t get what he wants.” Karan pointed out that the main difference is that Aryan’s passion is channelled from behind the camera, unlike his superstar father.

SRK Never Discusses Money

Karan also spoke about his unique professional relationship with Shah Rukh Khan, whom he considers family. He made a surprising revelation that in their decades-long collaboration, SRK is the only actor who has never discussed money with him.

“He is my friend, mentor, brother, and my everything. He is the only person who has never talked about money with me,” Karan shared. He explained SRK’s process, “He says, ‘Whatever you want, you send the paper and I’ll sign it.’ Up until now, he has never discussed money for any of the movies with me or even heard the script.” Karan added, “He’s my family. Apart from him, every actor has just been professional.”

A Bond Spanning Decades

Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan’s successful partnership goes back to 1995 when KJo was an assistant director on Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. Their first film as a director-actor duo was the 1998 blockbuster Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

They went on to create some of Bollywood’s biggest hits together, including Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001) and My Name Is Khan (2010), solidifying their place as one of the industry’s most successful teams.
