Kareena Kapoor has never been one to soften a sharp opinion, and that is exactly why her old remarks on Bollywood’s body obsession continue to hit home. At a time when dramatic physical transformations increasingly became part of star branding, she pushed back with a clear argument: cinema cannot lose sight of performance.
Kareena Kapoor’s Sharp Take On Bollywood’s Fitness Obsession
Speaking about the growing emphasis on physical transformation, Kareena said, “I don’t know why even actresses are running behind six packs and the toned look.” She made her frustration even clearer when the conversation turned to whether acting was being pushed aside by image-building.
“Yes, ofcourse. All our heroes and heroines are busy in building six-packs. Pilates, six pack, eight pack and things like that have become the buzzword. Very few people are wanting to get into something that is performance based.”
With that, Kareena cut straight to the anxiety she saw building inside mainstream Hindi cinema. Her objection was never to fitness itself. It was to the idea that physical transformation could begin to overshadow the harder, less visible work of performance.
She underlined that distinction with another candid remark: “I don’t think it’s got to do with pressure from the industry. May be trainers have become more. You have to decide what you want to do. This is the kind of film that I want to be a part of. I don’t know why the focus has shifted. Physicality and physical appearance is important. Looking good is a part of the job. It is a visual medium but it is not necessary everyone should have a six-pack for that.”
Why The Comment Still Feels Relevant
Kareena’s point still feels unusually precise because it addressed something larger than vanity. It challenged the way star culture often treats transformation as achievement in itself. In an industry that loves before-and-after narratives, her comments brought the focus back to what finally lingers on screen: timing, emotional control, and character.
That clarity also mirrors the way she has shaped her own screen journey. Even within big-banner commercial cinema, she has consistently protected space for parts that lean on presence and texture rather than image alone.
Kareena Kapoor’s Recent And Upcoming Work
Kareena’s recent run has shown that range in a particularly visible way. She appeared in Laal Singh Chaddha in 2022 opposite Aamir Khan, then shifted into a more intimate zone with her Netflix debut Jaane Jaan in 2023, where she anchored a tightly wound mystery with a notably restrained performance.
She carried that tonal shift forward with The Buckingham Murders in 2024, a moody investigative drama directed by Hansal Mehta. That same year, she pivoted effortlessly into glossy commercial super hit fare with Crew, co-starring Tabu and Kriti Sanon, before stepping into franchise spectacle with Singham Again.
Her next confirmed release is Daayra, directed by Meghna Gulzar and co-starring Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on September 18, 2026, and it stands as the latest sign of how carefully Kareena continues to balance mainstream appeal with directors and material that keep her filmography evolving.
