Kartik Aaryan has recently opened up about his approach to salary negotiations and his commitment to ensuring the profitability of his films. As he prepares for the release of Chandu Champion, directed by Kabir Khan, Kartik has been vocal about his willingness to reduce his fees to benefit the entire production team.
“I have been very conscious that my producers or anybody associated with my film has to earn,” Kartik told Film Companion in a recent interview.
Kartik Aaryan Says He Is Always Ready To Reduce His Fees
The discussion around the high salaries of superstars impacting movie budgets and production quality has been prominent in recent months. Addressing this, Kartik explained, “If a star’s value adds up to the revenue from digital rights, satellite rights, or theatrical business, then there is scope for getting a certain fee. But if it doesn’t, then you have to lower your price.”
He emphasised fairness, adding, “I don’t work with the mindset that whatever happens, I must earn. It can’t be like I’m the only one earning. My producers and directors are aware of this, and I am sure a lot of actors are doing the same. It is good for the larger ecosystem. Apart from reviews, we also need box-office numbers. I am always ready to reduce my fee.”
Kartik Feels Profitability Must Be Shared As There Are Many People Involved In The Film
Reflecting on his financial decisions, Kartik shared, “Because there are lots of people involved in a film, everyone needs to earn their livelihood. Everyone works so hard, day and night. So, profitability should be shared.”
He elaborated on the financial dynamics in a recent interview with PTI, explaining the different revenue streams of a film and the importance of balancing these to ensure profitability for the entire team.
Kartik also mentioned his decision to forgo his fee for Shehzada, a film facing financial difficulties. In an interview with Showsha, he revealed that he was given a producer credit for the film due to this decision. “I let go of my fee because they were short of finances. No one writes about this, but many stars do similar things. Everyone wants their films to work and no one wants to overload them with unnecessary costs,” he said.
Kartik Aaryan On His Experience As An Outsider In The Industry
Addressing his experience as an outsider in the industry, Kartik spoke about feelings of isolation, noting that he hasn’t made many friends in Bollywood. “It does get lonely, and I have felt lonely a lot of times. My school and college friends have moved to different countries, so it gets lonely for me. Relationships in this industry change from Friday to Friday. It’s tough to be pally with many people because we work with different teams each time,” he shared.
Despite these challenges, Kartik finds happiness in his family and old friends, even though they might not fully understand the industry’s pressures. “Sometimes, you are just left with yourself. You can’t discuss everything with your family. But I am living my dreams. I don’t want to complain about these petty things. I have no complaints,” he concluded.
Kartik is set to star in Sajid Nadiadwala’s Chandu Champion, which releases on June 14. Apart from this, he also has Aashiqui 3, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, and Anurag Basu’s next with Triptii Dimri.
