The teaser for Kesari Chapter 2 has taken the internet by storm. This historical drama, starring Akshay Kumar, Ananya Panday, and R. Madhavan, has not only captured Bollywood’s attention but has also reignited a global discussion. The film brings back focus on the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, one of the darkest chapters in history.
UK MP Pushes For A Formal Apology
The buzz around the film has now reached British political circles. Recently, UK MP Bob Blackman urged the UK government to issue a formal apology for the massacre. In a parliamentary session, he revisited the horrors of April 13, 1919, when General Dyer ordered troops to fire on peaceful Indians gathered at Jallianwala Bagh. The brutal attack killed around 1,500 people and injured over 1,200.
Blackman stated, “On April 13th, 1919, families gathered very peacefully in the Jallianwala Bagh to enjoy the sun, enjoy the day out with their families. General Dyer, on behalf of the British, marched his troops in and ordered his troops to fire on those innocent people until they ran out of ammunition. At the end of that massacre, 1,500 people were dead and 1,200 were injured. Eventually, General Dyer was disgraced for that stain on the British Empire.”
He further urged the UK government to take action and said, “In 2019, then Prime Minister Theresa May recognised this was a stain on British Colonial rule in India. But could we have a statement in government time? The anniversary will be on April 13th this year when we’re in recess, so could we have a statement from the government admitting to what went wrong and formally giving an apology to the people of India?”
