After 18 long years, the beloved comedy Khosla Ka Ghosla is set to hit theatres again on October 18, 2024. This iconic film, starring Boman Irani and Anupam Kher, has become a cult classic since its original release. The re-release is part of a larger trend of bringing back fan-favourite films to the big screen.
Boman Irani Shares An Update, Anupam Kher Confident On Film’s Re-Release Success
Boman Irani took to social media to share his excitement. He wrote, “18 years later, and the cult classic Khosla Ka Ghosla is BACK on the big screen! It’s ready to win hearts all over again.”
Anupam Kher, who also stars in the film, believes in its special charm. He calls it a “fantastic cult film.” Kher explained, “You don’t make a film thinking it’s going to be a cult classic. We faced numerous difficulties during production, but it turned out to be one of a kind. Today, it has an amazing value for revisiting.”
Kher highlighted the film’s unique “amusing power,” noting that even when it airs on TV, viewers can’t help but stop and watch. He mentioned, “The dialogues are iconic, and the characters are so entertaining and real that they create remarkable recall value.”
The 69-year-old actor expressed his happiness that today’s generation can experience the film on the big screen, calling it a “cool film.” He noted that the Gen Z audience often sees Bollywood as all about classics, but Khosla Ka Ghosla is something they can truly enjoy.
Reflecting on the challenges faced during filming, Kher shared some behind-the-scenes stories. “The producers and directors were trying their best to secure funding. It was also challenging to shoot in June in Delhi with temperatures soaring to 49°C and no vanity van. I think it was the most powerful script I had read at that time,” he said.
When asked about the recent trend of re-releases, Kher expressed his views on their effectiveness. “I don’t think every film can be re-released and draw audiences back to theatres. Nostalgia works for only a select few films; it doesn’t apply to every movie. I am confident that Khosla Ka Ghosla will do well in theatres. People always want to watch films associated with their youth; they long to feel the same emotions after all these years.”
There’s even talk of a sequel. Producer Savita Raj hinted at some developments. “She has shared the plan but hasn’t provided the script yet. Until the script or other details are finalised, it’s just a plan. If the script is as good as the original, then I think it would be a fantastic opportunity to be part of this film,” Kher said.
