What happens when a legendary producer brings back the magic of one of his most memorable films? Boney Kapoor is ready to answer that question with the much awaited sequel to his 2017 thriller.
Mom 2 has officially gone on floors in Mumbai, beginning production on October 26, just after the Diwali celebrations wrapped up. The film stars Khushi Kapoor and Karishma Tanna in crucial roles, with nearly 10 to 11 days of shooting already completed. The production is progressing smoothly according to sources close to the project.
A New Director Takes The Helm
While the first Mom was directed by Ravi Udyawar, the sequel sees a change in the director’s chair. Girish Kohli has been entrusted with directing Mom 2, a choice that makes perfect sense given his deep connection to the franchise. Girish was one of the story writers of the first part and also single handedly wrote its screenplay and dialogues. Producer Boney Kapoor realized that he will do justice to Mom 2 as he knows this series well and hence gave him the responsibility.
Girish has also proved his worth with the Sohum Shah starrer Crazxy, which released earlier this year. His understanding of the material and proven directorial skills make him the ideal choice to continue the story that captured audiences’ hearts.
Grand Announcement On The Cards
There is strong buzz that Boney Kapoor plans to announce this film in a grand fashion on his birthday, which falls on November 11. The timing would be perfect as the shoot is well underway and the producer could unveil the project with significant footage already in the can. A clearer idea on this front will emerge in the coming days.
Following In Mother’s Footsteps
At the 25th IIFA Awards held in Jaipur earlier this year in March 2025, Boney Kapoor had confirmed his plans to work with Khushi. He stated that he watched all of Khushi’s films including The Archies, Loveyapa and Nadaniyaan, and was planning a film with her after No Entry 2. He mentioned it could be Mom 2 and expressed hope that Khushi is trying to follow in the footsteps of her mother Sridevi, who was the top star in all the languages she worked in.
Meanwhile, fans are also eagerly waiting for Boney’s other much awaited film No Entry 2, the sequel to 2005’s biggest hit No Entry, to go on floors soon.
