Kiran Rao Shares Laapataa Ladies Is Set To Release in Japan
Kiran Rao took to Instagram to share the exciting news with a clip from the movie. She wrote in caption, “Laapataa Ladies will be found in Japan from October 4, 2024. We are so excited for our theatrical release in Japan by Shochiku, Japan – arigato gozaimasu.”
The announcement has sparked excitement among international fans eager to see the film’s take on complex social issues.
The Film Was Recently Screened At Supreme Court Of India
Laapataa Ladies isn’t just another film for Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan. The duo recently attended a special screening of the movie at the Supreme Court of India, which added another layer of significance to its journey. At the event, Aamir Khan shared his thoughts on producing the film and his vision for the future of Indian cinema.
Aamir revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic made him rethink his career and how he could give back to society. “During Covid, I had a lot of free time and used to keep thinking. I realised that I might have 15 more years of active work left…uske baad zindagi kisne dekhi hai. I wanted to give back to people whatever I have learned in the past so many years,” Aamir said during an interview with Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud.
Aamir went on to explain his desire to create opportunities for emerging talents in the industry. “The industry, society, and country have given me so much. I thought that I could do one film a year as an actor, but as a producer, I can produce many more films. I want to give platform to new talents…writers, directors, and everyone involved in the process,” he said.
Aamir pointed out that Laapataa Ladies is just the beginning of this vision. “This is the first project in that sense. I want to promote this kind of talent and hopefully, I can produce four to five films a year. I want to be the shoulder for talent,” he added.

The film follows the story of two brides who get separated during a train journey, leading to a series of unexpected events that delve into the lives of rural women. Its unique storyline has already grabbed attention, especially after its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September 2023, where it earned a standing ovation.
The film’s star-studded cast includes Ravi Kishan, Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ratna, and Sparsh Shrivastav in prominent roles, adding to the buzz around its release.
