Korean Producer Hyunwoo Thomas Kim Approaches Akshay Kumar For Exciting Korean Film Remake With Sujoy Ghosh Onboard

Get ready for a major collaboration between Bollywood and Korean cinema! Korean producer Hyunwoo Thomas Kim of Kross Pictures has approached Akshay Kumar for an exciting Korean film remake. The most interesting part is that acclaimed director Sujoy Ghosh has already worked on the draft. If Akshay agrees to come onboard, this could be one of the most exciting Indo Korean collaborations in recent times.

In a recent interview with Mid Day, Hyunwoo Thomas Kim revealed this big news. He stated that he has texted Akshay Kumar, who is currently in London, asking him to watch a particular Korean film that everyone in the industry knows about. The producer confirmed that Sujoy Ghosh has already completed working on the draft. Now everything depends on whether Akshay gives his approval for the project.

A Decade Long Journey In Mumbai

Hyunwoo Thomas Kim has been quietly building his presence in Indian cinema for almost 10 years now. Based in Mumbai, he has produced several interesting and out of the box Indian films through Kross Pictures. His production credits include Te3n, Jaane Jaan, Blind, and Saakini Daakini. These films showcase his ability to identify unique stories and bring them to Indian audiences.

The producer’s journey to India began in an unexpected way. Back in 2014, he regularly received emails from a company named Balaji and initially thought it was spam. When he finally opened the mail, he discovered that Balaji Motion Pictures had been trying to acquire the rights of The Devotion Of Suspect X for a Hindi remake. When he learned that Sujoy Ghosh would direct the adaptation, he watched Kahaani and was so impressed that he flew down to Mumbai immediately.

Why India Became His Base

Hyunwoo Thomas Kim shared that he was amazed by Mumbai during his first visit. He found it easy to do business as everyone spoke English. He remarked that India has a huge market, great directors, and talented actors. What it lacks, according to him, is writers of the caliber found in Korea. He saw this as a gap he could fill by bringing Korean stories to India.

The producer also revealed that he has been warmly received by the Hindi film industry. He has met with everyone, including Shah Rukh Khan, who first messaged him about a script. This shows the growing interest in Korean content among Bollywood’s biggest stars.

From Legal Battles To New Collaborations

Hyunwoo Thomas Kim’s journey in India has not been without challenges. He won a legal case against the Kannada film Pushpaka Vimana, which was an unauthorized remake of Miracle In Cell No 7, whose rights he holds. The Bombay High Court passed an order in his favor, restraining the filmmakers from awarding any satellite or telecast rights.

His most successful Indian production so far has been Jaane Jaan, which finally released in 2023 after years of development. The film was the long awaited remake of The Devotion Of Suspect X and received positive reviews upon release.
