The buzz around Kill is far from over. Karan Johar has now confirmed that the successful action film will have a sequel. The film, directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival and hit theatres in July, quickly capturing attention for its intense storyline and performances.
Karan Johar Confirms Kill Sequel Is Being Planned
Speaking at the CNBC-TV18 Global Leadership Summit in Mumbai, Johar revealed that plans are already in place for the second instalment of Kill. He expressed excitement about building on the success of the original film and said, “We’re now planning a second part, hoping for the same international success.”
Kill follows Amrit, an Indian Army commando, who falls in love with Tulika. Their romance takes a terrifying turn when they find themselves trapped on a hijacked train with a gang of ruthless dacoits, led by the villainous Fani. The film was praised for its thrilling narrative, as well as the strong performances by Lakshya, Tanya Maniktala, and Raghav Juyal.
The film’s global success has sparked huge interest in Indian cinema, with Johar highlighting its role in bringing Indian stories to international audiences.
He shared, “When we had a breakthrough film like Kill that made waves internationally, it was an electrifying moment for us.”
He also pointed out that the film has been dubbed in multiple languages and is set for an English remake, with John Wick director Chad Stahelski producing the film for Lionsgate under his banner 87Eleven Entertainment.
Karan Doesn’t Like To Make Crossover Films
While the film’s success continues to unfold, Johar also addressed the growing recognition of Indian cinema on the world stage. He made it clear that he doesn’t believe in making “crossover” films.
“Once you cross, it’s over. Indian cinema is unique in its essence, and it’s that authenticity, not compromise, that will captivate the world,” Johar said.
What To Expect From Kill Sequel?
Johar teased exciting new collaborations for the Kill sequel. One such partnership is with Cannes-winning filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan, who will help bring Indian cinema to even more global festivals. The sequel is expected to up the ante with even bigger action sequences and deeper international appeal.
Produced by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, Kill has already been hailed as “the most violent film made out of India,” and the sequel is poised to raise the stakes even higher.
