Back in 2022, it was first reported that the director was planning a Telugu film, and excitement was high. However, things got delayed as Lokesh shifted his focus to collaborating with superstar Rajinikanth on Coolie, while Allu Arjun was busy completing Pushpa 2 and signing on for his next project with director Atlee.

The project was originally intended for actor Suriya, which makes sense given Lokesh Kanagaraj’s successful collaboration with him on Vikram.
Later, the film was reportedly pitched to Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, which would have marked a massive pan India collaboration. However, according to the latest updates, neither Suriya nor Aamir Khan is available for the project due to their existing commitments. This is when Lokesh Kanagaraj reportedly approached Allu Arjun with the superhero concept.

Industry whispers indicate that the narration of Irumbu Kai Maayavi reportedly impressed Allu Arjun. The superhero concept and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s vision for the film have caught the Icon Star’s attention. However, he has yet to make a definitive decision as he is still engaged in his film with director Atlee, which is currently in progress.
This makes sense from a practical standpoint. Allu Arjun is known for giving his complete focus to one project at a time, and with the Atlee film being such a massive undertaking, he would want to wrap that up before committing to another big project like Irumbu Kai Maayavi.
