Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha’s Lootera is getting another shot at the big screen. The 2013 period drama, which struggled during its initial run, is set to re-release on March 7, 2025.
Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, the film has gained a cult following over the years for its poetic storytelling and soulful music.
Lootera To Re-release In March
On February 19, PVR Cinemas confirmed the news on Instagram. They shared the film’s official poster featuring Ranveer and Sonakshi and wrote, “It’s time, everyone! Experience the magic of Lootera once again on the big screen, starting March 7.”
Fans reacted with excitement in the comment section. One user wrote, “I manifested this! Just last week, I wished I could watch Lootera on the big screen.” Another commented, “Something worth watching for the 100th time!”
About The Film
Inspired by O. Henry’s short story The Last Leaf, the film is set in the 1950s against the backdrop of the Zamindari Abolition Act. It follows a young con artist (Ranveer Singh) who pretends to be an archaeologist and falls for a Bengali zamindar’s daughter (Sonakshi Sinha). Their love story turns tragic when his real identity is exposed, leading to heartbreak and emotional turmoil.
Despite its stunning cinematography and strong performances, Lootera struggled at the box office in 2013. It earned Rs 27 crore against a reported budget of Rs 32 crore, making it a commercial failure at the time.
However, over the years, the film has been praised for its depth, emotional storytelling, and Amit Trivedi’s haunting soundtrack.
Lootera was Motwane’s second directorial venture after Udaan (2010), which was critically acclaimed. The film also features Vikrant Massey, Barun Chanda, Arif Zakaria, Divya Dutta, and Adil Hussain in key roles.
