In Bollywood, big films often come with even bigger numbers, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love And War is the latest to be caught in a budget storm. Over the past week, chatter around the Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal starrer suggested that the film’s cost had ballooned to Rs 425 crore and that the production had slipped into turbulence. The film’s team, however, is pushing back strongly against that narrative.
The Latest Update On Love And War’s Budget
Box Office Worldwide has learned that the makers have clarified the actual production spend, and the Rs 425 crore figure doing the rounds is being denied.
According to information shared from sources close to the project, Love And War did see its budget rise from its initial plan, but it has climbed to Rs 350 crore, not Rs 425 crore. The same source also underlined that the film is “proceeding as planned,” adding that Bhansali is “passionately filming this,” and that he does not compromise on his vision. The source also stated that the Rs 425 crore number is “trying to harm the project on purpose,” and insisted there is “no truth” to those claims.
Another key detail is where the money is going. The film is said to be mounted largely on sets, with period recreation driving much of the visual scale instead of heavy VFX-led construction. On top of the production cost, the makers are also said to be budgeting roughly Rs 30 crore for marketing, taking the total landing cost to about Rs 380 crore.
On the timeline front, the film is now being positioned for a 2027 theatrical release, and the shoot is expected to wrap by June.
Love And War is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, marking their first on screen collaboration as a trio. It also reunites Bhansali with Ranbir after Saawariya (2007) and with Alia after Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022), while it is Bhansali’s first film with Vicky. The film is being mounted as a period set drama with much of its scale created through elaborate set work.
