Salman Khan’s next big-screen move has already been through a dramatic rewrite before audiences have seen a single frame. Maatrubhumi, the actor’s high-stakes collaboration with director Apoorva Lakhia, has undergone a major overhaul, with the latest version dropping every direct mention of China and reshaping the film’s original war-driven pitch into a newly sanitised cut.
According to the source report linked to this story, the changes came after objections were raised during the clearance process for the film, which was earlier announced as Battle Of Galwan. The revised version was then rebuilt and resubmitted after extensive changes, including newly shot portions, romantic scenes and added backstory. Nearly 40 percent of the film was reshot, underlining the scale of the rethink behind Salman Khan’s latest patriotic action drama.
The Latest Update On Maatrubhumi
The most significant change is that Maatrubhumi no longer names China at any point in the film. The source report states that the instruction to avoid that reference had been conveyed in advance, and the makers subsequently reworked the material before sending in a new cut earlier this month. Even then, concerns around the content persisted, keeping the film in a holding pattern.
That uncertainty has also affected its theatrical plans. Maatrubhumi had been linked to a May 15 release, but with the film still caught in this stage, that date is no longer in play. For Salman Khan, the project remains one of the most closely watched titles in his current lineup, especially because it places him in a genre space that blends military action with emotional drama.
A War Drama Recast As Human Conflict
Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, Maatrubhumi stars Salman Khan in the lead with Chitrangda Singh as the female lead. The film takes shape as a war drama built around combat, duty and the emotional toll carried by those at the heart of conflict. The revised structure appears to give greater space to personal relationships and character motivations, suggesting a broader dramatic frame than the film’s original, more confrontation-led conception.
That shift also aligns with Lakhia’s interest in tense, high-pressure storytelling, while giving Salman Khan a role mounted on scale, intensity and sentiment. Instead of playing purely as a conflict headline, the film now seems positioned as a more character-led commercial drama.
Salman Khan’s Recent And Upcoming Work
The turbulence around Maatrubhumi arrives at an interesting moment in Salman Khan’s career. He was last seen in the 2025 release Sikandar, following Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan and Tiger 3 in 2023, and a cameo in Singham Again. Against that backdrop, Maatrubhumi stands out as an attempt to anchor a patriotic action story with heavier dramatic stakes.
Looking ahead, Khan has also confirmed a collaboration with producer Dil Raju and director Vamshi Paidipally on a new action thriller scheduled to go on floors in April 2026. He is also attached to a superhero project with Raj and DK that remains in development. In that larger career stretch, Maatrubhumi is clearly positioned as a key pivot, which makes its ongoing reworking all the more significant.
