Maddock Films is riding high after back-to-back hits. Last year’s Stree 2 did well, and Chhaava turned out to be a box office winner. Now, they’re ready to drop their next film, Bhool Chuk Maaf, a rom-com starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi. The film will hit cinemas on May 9. Before the trailer launch, Maddock’s producer Dinesh Vijan spoke at a press conference.
He shared his views on how Bollywood is changing and what kind of stories are connecting with audiences today.
Dinesh Vijan Says Bollywood Isn’t Aspirational To The West
Vijan made it clear that Bollywood doesn’t need to chase the West anymore. He said, “We are trying to understand that right now, we are not aspirational to the West. We are very Indian in how we think.” According to him, Indian audiences now want stories they can relate to.
He added that it’s the everyday people who are shaping the success of films. The producer shared, “The common man wants stories about them.” He pointed out that while regular moviegoers visit theatres on Fridays, the elite crowd usually comes a week later. He feels that it makes a big difference. The real buzz comes from the masses.
Producer On The Importance Of Shared Success In Industry
Vijan also spoke about the need for shared success in the industry. He said, “It’s very important to wish for everyone to do well. Just us doing well is not enough.” He believes that growth in Bollywood should be collective, not just about individual wins.
Talking about his team, Vijan said he’s grateful for the kind of people he works with. “I am fortunate that my writers and directors are grounded and real people and are connected to the new Bharat.”
He also mentioned how important it is to stay connected to one’s roots. He concluded, “It is very important to know who we are because the new Bharat is proud of who they are.”
Bhool Chuk Maaf is Maddock’s third release of the year. Before this, they delivered Sky Force with Akshay Kumar and Chhaava featuring Vicky Kaushal.
