Major Mohit Sharma’s Family Files Case Against Dhurandhar: Delhi High Court Petition Seeks Stay On Ranveer Singh Film Release Over Unauthorized Portrayal

Get ready for major legal trouble surrounding one of the most anticipated films of the year. The parents of late Major Mohit Sharma, who was an Ashoka Chakra and Sena Medal awardee, have filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking an immediate stay on the release of Ranveer Singh‘s upcoming spy thriller Dhurandhar. This development has created a major controversy just weeks before the film’s scheduled release.

The family alleges that the film draws heavily from Major Sharma’s life, his undercover missions, and his martyrdom, all without taking permission from his family or the Indian Army. The petition states that several elements shown in the Dhurandhar trailer and promotional material appear to replicate key events from Major Sharma’s military career, including classified counter terrorism operations conducted in Kashmir.

Film Mirrors Major Sharma’s Life According To Petition

The family’s legal petition makes serious allegations about how closely the film appears to follow Major Mohit Sharma’s real life story. Although media reports and online discussions have repeatedly linked the film to the decorated officer, the makers have reportedly neither acknowledged this association nor consulted the family at any stage of production.

The petition strongly emphasizes that a martyr is not a commercial commodity and that his life cannot be recreated for profit without truth, dignity, or due permission. This is a powerful statement that highlights the emotional and ethical concerns of the family regarding how their loved one’s sacrifice is being portrayed on screen.

Personality Rights And Privacy Violations Alleged

The family argues that the unauthorized depiction infringes upon Major Sharma’s posthumous personality rights under Article 21 of the Constitution. They also contend that it violates the family’s own right to privacy, dignity, and emotional well being.

These are serious legal grounds that go beyond just creative freedom. The petition is essentially stating that even after a person’s death, their life story and legacy belong to their family and cannot be exploited without proper consent. This case could set an important precedent for how real life military heroes are portrayed in films.

National Security Concerns Raised By Family

One of the most serious allegations in the petition relates to national security. The family asserts that Dhurandhar appears to portray sensitive military strategies, infiltration methods, and operational details without any indication that the filmmakers obtained clearance from the Indian Army’s Additional Directorate General of Public Information.

The ADGPI is the authority responsible for overseeing how the Indian Army is represented in films and media. According to the petition, there is no evidence that director Aditya Dhar or the production team obtained the required permissions or consultations. If proven true, this could be a major violation of protocol.

The film is scheduled for release soon, but now faces legal challenges from the family of late Major Mohit Sharma over allegations of unauthorized portrayal.
