PS1 (Ponniyin Selvan Part 1), a film directed by Mani Ratnam, is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language action film. It is set to be released in theatres on September 30, 2022. It stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sobhita Dhulipala, Vikram Prabhu. The music is done by A.R Rahman.

The much-awaited trailer of it is out, with voice-over of Anil Kapoor. It’s currently trending on 8th on video streaming platform YouTube. The 3 minute 23 second trailer was released in five languages. It has garnered 15 lakh views in 15 hours of posting.

The drama and fantasy film is based on writer Kalki Krishnamurthy’s majestic five-volume novel Ponniyin Selvan in 1954. It is a 2 hour 50 minute film that marks the return of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to the mega screen after four years. At the same time, it also represents the culmination of 30 years of joining hands between director Mani Ratnam and AR Rahman, after both worked in collaboration for Roja.

Four more songs from the movie, namely ‘Raatchasa Maamane’, ‘Sol’, ‘Devaralan Aattam’ and ‘Alaikadal’, were released on Spotify on September 6. The film also clashes with Vikram Vedha’s release starring Hrithik Roshan.

“My first thanks to Kalki. Next is Subaskaran. When he asked me what I wanted to do after Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, I said I wanted to do Ponniyin Selvan. He thought for a while and said let’s do it. He then asked me if it would be like Baahubali. I said no it won’t be. He later asked if it would be like Padmaavat. I said no. Then he asked how will it be. I said I am planning to make like what Amarar Kalki had written,” said Ratnam.

The production house tweeted, “As magnificent as it could get! Witness the trailer of #PS1 in 5 languages in the captivating voices of @ikamalhaasan Sir, @AnilKapoor Sir, @RanaDaggubati Sir, @PrithviOfficial Sir and #JayantKaikini Sir! #PonniyinSelvan #ManiRatnam @arrahman @madrastalkies_ @LycaProductions,” (sic).”
