As soon as Pathaan’s first song ‘Besharam Rang’ released, protests started against the film calling for a boycott. Now, veteran film distributor and owner of G7 in Bandra, Manoj Desai recently has opened up about the film and the controversies around it.
Talking to Bollywood Hungama, The owner of theaters in Mumbai like Gaiety and Galaxy, Desai said, “It is quite possible that there is some kind of propaganda behind this. I have not said anything because of my relations with Shah Rukh Khan. Whenever there has been a Shah Rukh or Salman film, they are at Gaiety Galaxy. They (the actors) always come by. As for propaganda, I do not care about it.”
Desai went into the religious factor around the film and added, “For me, there is no Hindu – Muslim. I will say it again; an equal number of Hindus and Muslims will watch Pathaan. And both have the same level of value for me because, at the end of the day, they are both my customers. I have to salute them. So that Hindu-Muslim divide does not come up for me, and I do not talk about it either.”
The veteran exhibitor also revealed about the advance bookings of Pathaan. He also said that filmmakers want to increase the ticket rate, but he doesn’t agree with them.
On asking about ‘Will Pathaan work at the box office?’, he responded, “It will work. It will definitely work. Hindus and Muslims will also watch the film. It does not depend on the trailer as much, instead, it depends on how the film will perform and continue in theaters.”
Well Desai said that due to controversies, he has told his executives to be careful so the protesters won’t damage his theaters. Meanwhile, Pathaan will be released in theaters on January 25 starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in lead roles.
