Akshay Kumar has once again landed in the middle of a heated debate. The term ‘teleprompter actor’ has been trending online after a clip from his recent film Sarfira went viral. The footage allegedly shows him reading dialogues from a teleprompter instead of engaging naturally with his co-stars. Now, filmmaker Ahmed Khan has stepped in to defend him.
Ahmed Khan DEFENDS Akshay Kumar’s ‘Teleprompter Actor’ Tag
During a recent conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Khan confirmed that Akshay does use a teleprompter but insisted that it does not take away from his performance.
He said, “Many actors do this. Everyone has their own method. What Akshay does is also a talent. He does so many things physically. While many actors can remember dialogues but do not give much from their side physically.”
The director added, “Akshay tries to give a lot of things from his side to the film. He adds dialogues like Behen dar gayi, Chal-Chal Baap ko mat sikha.”
About The Controversy
The controversy gained momentum after an Instagram user, who identifies as a VFX artist, shared an analysis of Akshay’s scenes from Sarfira. The user pointed out multiple moments where his eye movements appeared unnatural & he was reading rather than performing.
In one particular sequence, he seemed to be looking sideways instead of interacting with his co-actors. Another emotional moment lacked depth, with Akshay allegedly focusing on the script instead of fully immersing himself in the scene.
Sarfira was the Hindi remake of Soorarai Pottru, which originally starred Suriya and was a massive hit. The Bollywood adaptation, however, failed to recreate the same magic at the box office.
Starring Radhika Madan and Paresh Rawal alongside Akshay, the film struggled to impress audiences. This added to Akshay’s recent string of underperforming films. His last release Sky Force performed decently but faced accusations of inflated box office numbers.
Akshay is now moving forward with an impressive lineup. He will next be seen in Jolly LLB 3, Housefull 5, Bhooth Bangla, Welcome to the Jungle, and Hera Pheri 3.
The teleprompter debate has sparked a larger discussion among fans and critics. Some believe that memorising dialogues is a fundamental skill for actors, while others argue that the final performance is what truly matters. What are your thoughts about this? Tell us in the comments!
