Mission Impossible 8 India Box Office: Tom Cruise To Deliver 2025’s Biggest Hollywood Opening, Surpassing Bollywood Biggies

Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible 8 to open in India on May 17 with ₹20–25 crore net. Advance bookings beat all Hollywood films and most Bollywood biggies in 2025.

Tom Cruise Is Back in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning

Tom Cruise is coming back as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning and seems set to do the impossible — out-earn not just Hollywood blockbusters but even some of Bollywood’s biggest films releasing in 2025 at the Indian box office.

The film releases in India on May 17, and not only does that technically give advance bookings a head start with 6 days prior to its U.S. release, but the sheer buzz is unlike anything else.

Advance Booking Blitz: MI 8 Smashes Pre-Sales Records Across India

While release dates for the U.S. box office memos are still a tad underwhelming, MI 8 mania has taken hold in India, with advance booking almost entirely sold out in major metropolitan chains — a good sign for its impending release on May 17.

It is safe to assume that within hours of going on sale, more than 12,000 tickets will be sold; that’s far surpassed by whatever record this week’s mid-week bookings now estimate — the figure to surpass 60,000 and approach 1 lakh this mid-week.

What can be claimed to be unbelievable?
The Hindi version alone is tracking better than most recent mid-budget Bollywood films, and when English and other dub versions are included, the trade thinks MI 8 is tracking better than all Hindi movies that have been released in 2023 — with the exception of other mass-magnitude biggies like Chhaava, Sikandar, L2: Empuraan, Game Changer, and Good Bad Ugly that whipped up good income.

“The Hindi version’s advance is records beaten of Raid 2, and Kesari Chapter 2. That means a lot,” a trade insider said.

India Day 1 Estimate: ₹20–25 Cr Opening Expected

According to early estimates, the opening for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is expected to be between ₹20 and ₹25 crore net in India — making it the biggest Hollywood opener of 2025 and ahead of most Bollywood openers this year.

Day 1 Comparisons:

  • MI India: ₹18 crore (expected)
  • MI 7 (Dead Reckoning): ₹15 crore
  • MI 8 (Final Reckoning): ₹20–25 crore expected
  • Raid 2: ₹19 crore
  • Kesari Chapter 2: ₹13 crore
  • Jaat: ₹9 crore

While it will still be short of Avatar: The Way of Water‘s all-time record opening of ₹40 crore for a Hollywood film in India, MI 8 will be the reigning titan in 2025 on the box office lists — both for international and domestic openings.

Ethan Hunt’s Last Chapter: A Franchise Finale that Packs a Punch

Touted as the final instalment in the legendary franchise, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Tom Cruise takes flight as Ethan Hunt in his eighth and final outing in the series. Directed by an effective Christopher McQuarrie, the returning cast also includes:

  • Hayley Atwell
  • Ving Rhames
  • Simon Pegg
  • Vanessa Kirby
  • Pom Klementieff
  • Shea Whigham
  • Angela Bassett
  • Henry Czerny
  • Esai Morales
  • Nick Offerman
  • Holt McCallany
  • Greg Tarzan Davis

The release will be in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, giving it a significant pan-India footprint. It is distributed by Paramount Pictures and Skydance, with early shows commencing as early as Thursday midnight in metro cities.

BoxOfficeWorldwide Verdict

The return of Tom Cruise, and the box office is shaking. Bookings are plummeting through the roof, and audiences can barely contain their excitement.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning will hit Indian theatres stronger than most Hollywood releases in the past, and for Indian fans, they will begin their final mission on May 17, and looking at the numbers, this could be Cruise’s biggest blockbuster in India yet.
