Director Mohit Suri, the man behind the surprise blockbuster Saiyaara, has just dropped two major bombshells. Speaking at the FICCI Frames 2025 event, the filmmaker confirmed that he is already in talks with Yash Raj Films to collaborate on another movie! This exciting news comes on the heels of their incredibly successful partnership on Saiyaara.
Alongside producer Akshaye Widhani, Suri was discussing the phenomenal journey of their film when he shared some fascinating behind-the-scenes stories, including a powerful prediction made by YRF head honcho, Aditya Chopra, long before the film became a hit.
The 100 Crore Prediction By Aditya Chopra
In a candid revelation, Mohit Suri shared that the initial cut of Saiyaara was far from perfect. “When Adi sir (Aditya Chopra) and Akshaye saw the rough edit, it was really bad and quite loose,” he laughed, adding, “It was 3 hours and 15 minutes long. This was 2-3 months before the release.”
Despite the film’s raw state, Aditya Chopra’s belief in its soul was unshakable. Suri revealed Adi’s confident prediction: “‘Even if this film opens to Rs. 4-5 crores, it will still do Rs. 100 crores’.” Mohit explained, “What he meant is that he liked the film so much even in its rough format. Something had worked in the film.” This anecdote shows the immense faith the producer had in the film’s emotional core.
A New Film On The Cards With YRF
Building on their successful collaboration, Mohit Suri officially confirmed that another project is in the works. “To be honest, we are planning to do a film together again,” he announced. The director mentioned that the unique success of Saiyaara has inspired him. The film connected with a much wider audience than his previous action-oriented films.
“I have never had 60-year-old aunties telling me, ‘Beta, jeete raho. Bahut acchi picture banayi’ (laughs),” he shared, explaining how this new wave of appreciation has been a fresh experience for him. This connection with a family audience seems to be a motivating factor for his next venture with the studio.
Starting Afresh, No Formulas
Reflecting on his career, Mohit Suri spoke about the lessons he has learned. He compared the love for Saiyaara to his career-defining hit, Aashiqui 2. He also admitted that success cannot be manufactured. “You can never plan this kind of thing. I tried to imitate in Hamari Adhuri Kahaani, it doesn’t come across,” he confessed.
With his next film for YRF, Suri is embracing the advice he received from his seniors: “You cannot keep trying to put a formula and what worked for the audience. You can only start afresh.” This philosophy suggests that the next Mohit Suri-YRF film will be a completely new and original story, making the wait even more exciting for movie lovers.
