Last year, there was an official announcement about the production of a film based on the popular Indian superhero ‘Shaktimaan‘. However, since then, there have been no further updates regarding the progress of the movie. Recently, actor Mukesh Khanna, who portrayed the iconic role of Shaktimaan on television for several years, has provided an update on the film’s status.
In a video posted on his YouTube channel called “Bheeshm,” Mukesh Khanna addressed the prolonged delay surrounding the Shaktimaan film. He mentioned that the movie is going to be made on an international scale and emphasized that it will be a trilogy, as announced by Sony Pictures.
During his YouTube channel “Bheeshm” video, Mukesh Khanna provided updates on the Shaktimaan film, mentioning that the contract has been signed for this high-budget venture. He emphasized that the film is of significant magnitude, with each installment estimated to cost around ₹200-300 crore. The project is being undertaken by Sony Pictures, known for their work on the Spider-Man franchise. However, due to various reasons, primarily the Covid-19 pandemic, the film’s production faced delays. Khanna had previously confirmed the film’s existence on his channel.
Despite addressing the delays and progress of the Shaktimaan film, Mukesh Khanna refrained from divulging information about the actor chosen to portray the iconic character. He emphasized that the film’s magnitude and commercial aspects require careful consideration and negotiations. While Khanna remained tight-lipped about the casting decision, he assured viewers that he will continue to be a part of the film, asserting that Shaktimaan cannot come to life without his involvement.
Regarding his appearance as Shaktimaan, Mukesh Khanna revealed that he is no longer supposed to don the superhero’s costume due to concerns about comparisons. However, he assured fans that the film is indeed in the works and a final announcement will be made soon, unveiling the cast and director. Khanna emphasized that the film is being produced on an international scale, given its significance. Recent reports speculated that actor Ranveer Singh might portray Shaktimaan, with director Basil Joseph, renowned for ‘Minnal Murali,’ helming the project. Nevertheless, there has been no official confirmation regarding these reports.
Shaktimaan, which first aired on Doordarshan in September 1997, captivated viewers until 2005 and became one of India’s most beloved and highly-watched television shows. Mukesh Khanna played the central character and also served as the show’s producer. The series revolved around his alter ego, Pandit Gangadhar Vidhyadhar Mayadhar Omkarnath Shastriji, who worked as a photographer for the newspaper Aaj Ki Aawaz.
