If Awarapan 2 wanted a shortcut to the audience’s memory, it may have found the perfect one. Pakistani singer Mustafa Zahid, whose voice gave Tera Mera Rishta its aching pull in Awarapan back in 2007, is now in talks to return for a reprised version of the track in Emraan Hashmi’s sequel.
That possibility gives the film an immediate emotional edge. For many fans, Awarapan was never just about its tragic romance and brooding mood. Its music became part of the film’s identity, and Tera Mera Rishta remains one of the songs most closely tied to Hashmi’s screen legacy from that era.
The new development brings that connection back into sharp focus. As per the source report, “Now, mid-day has learnt that Pakistani singer Mustafa Zahid, who voiced the original ‘Tera Mera Rishta’, is in talks with producers Mukesh and Vishesh Bhatt to record its reprised version.” With Zahid’s name attached once again, the sequel is clearly leaning into the very musical recall that helped the original endure long after its theatrical run.
What Awarapan 2 Has Locked In
That song update also fits neatly into the larger design of the sequel, which is shaping up as a direct emotional callback rather than a title-only revival. Awarapan 2 brings Emraan Hashmi back as Shivam, the character at the centre of the 2007 film’s wounded romantic core. The film is directed by Nitin Kakkar, backed by Vishesh Films, and features Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi in key roles. It is currently slated for a theatrical release on August 14, 2026.
The original Awarapan built its following on atmosphere, heartbreak and a soundtrack that lingered. Bringing Zahid back for Tera Mera Rishta would strengthen that continuity in the most instinctive way possible, through the song that many listeners still associate with the film’s emotional soul.
Emraan Hashmi’S Recent And Upcoming Work
For Hashmi, that makes Awarapan 2 more than just another sequel on the slate. The actor’s recent work has pushed him further into intense, high-stakes territory, with Ground Zero released in April 2025 and They Call Him OG arriving in September 2025 as his Telugu outing. His upcoming line-up also includes G2 and Gunmaaster G9, both among his current projects.
Yet Awarapan 2 carries a different kind of pull because it reconnects him with one of the most emotionally remembered titles of his career. If Mustafa Zahid does return to sing Tera Mera Rishta again, the sequel will not just revisit a film, it will revive a feeling audiences never quite let go of.
