Set in June 1966, the story follows the murder of Mariyakkutty, a 43-year-old widow and mother of five whose body was found near the Madatharuvi stream in Ranni, Kerala. The investigation took a sensational turn after eyewitnesses said she had last been seen with a Roman Catholic priest shortly before her death. Father Benedict Onamkulam was later arrested, tried, convicted, and sentenced to death by the District Sessions Court. It marked the first time a Catholic priest was handed capital punishment for murder in India.

Produced by Subhash Kale and Narendra Hirawat under the banners of Camera Take Films Production and N H Studioz, the film has been written by C P Surendran, with music by Amar Mohile.
