Yami Gautam Dhar is switching gears again, and this time, she is stepping into a world that promises equal parts laughs and chills. At the #PrimeVideoPresents showcase, Prime Video announced Nayi Naveli, with Yami set to lead a new horror comedy backed by filmmaker producer Aanand L Rai. With the title reveal and the project’s positioning as a big, chaos-forward theatrical ride, the film instantly joined the list of Hindi announcements that actually feel event-ready.
The Prime Video Presents moment also made one thing clear: Nayi Naveli is being mounted as a mainstream entertainer, with the makers teasing a blend of mythology and folklore, packaged in a humour-first template.
The Latest Update On Nayi Naveli
As confirmed through multiple reports following the Prime Video Presents announcement, Nayi Naveli is being produced by Aanand L Rai under Colour Yellow Productions and will be directed by Balaji Mohan, best known for Maari and Maari 2. The project marks Mohan’s Hindi directorial debut.
The script has been written by Divy Nidhi Sharma, whose credits include Laapataa Ladies (2024) and Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar (2024). The film is described as a horror comedy that taps into Indian mythology and folklore, with Yami set to be seen in a fierce new avatar. Production timelines shared in coverage place the film in pre production, with filming expected to begin in February 2026.
A release date has not been announced yet. What has been communicated is the intended rollout: the film is expected to release in Indian cinemas first, followed by its streaming debut on Prime Video.
What To Expect From The Film’s Pitch
While story specifics are tightly guarded, the film’s core promise lies in its tonal mix: a folklore-rooted set-up, a large-scale commercial approach, and an entertainer framing that leans into “chaotic” fun. With Rai producing, and a director stepping into Hindi cinema for the first time, Nayi Naveli also reads like a deliberate attempt to refresh the horror comedy space with a new flavour instead of the usual small-town template.
Yami Gautam Dhar’s Recent And Upcoming Work
Over the last few years, Yami has built a sharply curated run across theatres and streaming. She led Article 370 (2024) in cinemas, and earlier featured in OMG 2 (2023).
