Nayyi Naveli: Yami Gautam Dhar Starts Filming Aanand L Rai’s Colour Yellow Project With Balaji Mohan

Yami Gautam Dhar has started work on Nayyi Naveli, a new Colour Yellow film that places her at the centre of a horror comedy set in Meerut. Backed by Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma, the project also marks Maari and Maari 2 director Balaji Mohan’s Hindi feature debut, giving the film an immediately distinctive creative mix.

The update arrives at a time when Yami’s choices have steadily moved toward author-backed stories and performance-led parts. With Nayyi Naveli, that streak continues through a project that combines a rooted setting, an offbeat genre and a filmmaker known for energetic, character-driven storytelling.

The Latest Update

Project-linked social media material has identified Nayyi Naveli as a Colour Yellow production starring Yami Gautam Dhar and directed by Balaji Mohan. The same material credits Himanshu Sharma and Divy Nidhi Sharma as writers and introduces the film as Mohan’s Hindi directorial debut under the banner. The official synopsis describes the story of a picture-perfect bride who transforms a chaotic Meerut household into paradise, placing the film firmly in the horror-comedy space.

That setup fits neatly within Colour Yellow’s long-standing taste for rooted, tonally unusual stories. It also gives Yami a fresh setting after a run of films that have leaned on intensity, control and narrative centrality. Here, the appeal lies in the contrast between the domestic world of the film and the genre framework wrapped around it.

Balaji Mohan Brings His Playful Chaos To Hindi Cinema

Balaji Mohan is best known for directing the Tamil commercial entertainers Maari and Maari 2, films that established his flair for eccentric humour and lively character dynamics. Nayyi Naveli brings that sensibility into Hindi cinema through a production house that has repeatedly backed stories with a strong sense of place and personality.

The creative line-up strengthens that identity. Himanshu Sharma’s association with Colour Yellow has often produced stories rooted in specific cultural settings, and Nayyi Naveli appears to follow that tradition through its Meerut backdrop and its image of a new bride entering a disorderly household. With Yami leading the film, the project adds an actor whose recent screen choices have increasingly centred on substance over formula.

Yami Gautam Dhar’s Recent And Upcoming Work

Yami’s recent filmography reflects a clear and confident momentum. In 2023, she moved between the Netflix thriller Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga and the theatrical hit OMG 2, before taking the lead in Article 370 in 2024, a political drama that further underlined her command in high-stakes roles. She followed that with Dhoom Dhaam in 2025 opposite Pratik Gandhi, while Haq, released the same year, drew critical appreciation and reinforced her standing in performance-led cinema.

Against that backdrop, Nayyi Naveli feels like a natural next step rather than a detour. It adds a new genre, a first-time collaboration with Balaji Mohan and the backing of Colour Yellow to a run that has become increasingly defined by distinctive, actor-led storytelling.
