The trailer of Vidya Balan‘s highly anticipated whodunit thriller Neeyat dropped today. The two-minute and 24-second-long trailer is quite captivating and captures some of the most intriguing moments from the film. Set on an isolated Scotland Island, it follows a group of people congregating to celebrate the birthday of a wealthy man named Ashish Kapoor (played charmingly by Ram Kapoor).
People are celebrating and everything is going alright until the story takes a dark turn. Mr. Kapoor apparently jumps off the cliff and dies by suicide. Enters Mira Rao, a CBI officer, who shows up to investigate the case. She says, “Mr. Kapoor ne suicide nahi kiya hai, unka murder hua hai.” In one scene the Kapoor character shouts at everyone, before his death, and tells that “each and everyone one of you is a bloody leech.”

One murder and many suspects, with almost everyone having a shady past and a strong motive to kill the rich guy. Will Mrs. Rao be able to crack this case and unravel the truth? We will find out soon. The trailer has a strong Agatha Christie vibe and the storyline is also something that hasn’t been explored well in Bollywood films. While all the characters are furious and anxious, Vidya’s character is the most calm and composed of them all as she tries to find out the killer.

Produced by Vikram Malhotra under Abundantia Entertainment, Neeyat is directed by Anu Menon who had earlier helmed Vidya’s Shakuntala Devi. The film has an interesting ensemble of Ram Kapoor, Rahul Bose, Neeraj Kabi, Prajakta Koli, Dipannita Sharma, Shashank Arora, Shahana Goswami, Amrita Puri, Niki Walia and Danesh Razvi. The film is scheduled to release theatrically on 7 July.
