Ranbir Kapoor‘s upcoming film Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, has been creating a lot of buzz ever since its announcement. The film, which also stars Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna and Tripti Dimri, is said to be a gangster drama with a strong emotional core. However, some netizens have pointed out that the film’s plot seems to be inspired from some of the films that featured Akshay Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan in the 2000s.
Similarities between Ranbir’s Animal and Akshay-Amitabh’s films
Animal is expected to centre around the complex relationship of Balbir Singh (Anil Kapoor), and his son, Arjun Singh (Ranbir Kapoor), who is the scion of the business family. He sets out to exact revenge against Viraj Surve (Bobby Deol) after tragedy befalls his father, and pledges to never leave his family, leading to a gruesome gang war.
Some netizens have noticed that this plot is similar to the 2001 film Ek Rishtaa: The Bond of Love, which starred Amitabh Bachchan as Vijay Kapoor, a successful businessman who has a strained relationship with his son Ajay (Akshay Kumar), who wants to start his own business. Ajay falls in love with Nisha (Karisma Kapoor) and marries her against his father’s wishes. Meanwhile, Vijay’s son-in-law Rajesh (Mohnish Bahl) plots to take over his fortune and business. Ajay later reconciles with his father and helps him to get back his wealth and dignity.
Some other netizens have also drawn parallels between Animal and Waqt. In 2005, Vipul Amrutlal Shah roped Akshay and Amitabh Bachchan for Waqt – The Race Against Time, which had turned out to be a success.
