Director Nikkhil Advani’s movie Vedaa was one of the three films released this year on Independence Day (August 15). At the box office, the John Abraham-starrer clashed with Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree 2 and Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein. Vedaa underperformed at the ticket window while Stree 2 emerged as the box office winner. In a new interview, filmmaker Nikkhil opened up about Vedaa’s poor box office performance.
Nikkhil Advani on Vedaa’s box office failure
Starring John Abraham and Sharvari in lead roles, Vedaa was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 60 crore. However, the Nikkhil Advani directorial collected Rs 20.25 crore in India. In a latest interview with Hindustan Times, Nikkhil reflected on Vedaa’s box office debacle.
Filmmaker Nikkhil Advani admitted that stuffing Vedaa 2024) with “masala and action” ended up compromising its integrity and purity. Starring John Abraham and Sharvari, the film set out to tackle caste issues in rural India but took a detour into action-entertainer territory.
Nikkhil confessed that he blundered by trying to make it “too entertaining” to woo a wider audience. This move, he admitted, diluted the film’s impact, which was originally meant to put the spotlight a Dalit girl’s story.
On the work front, Nikkhil made his directorial debut with Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Preity Zinta’s Kal Ho Naa Ho. Some of his directorial projects include Salaam-e-Ishq, D-Day, Chandni Chowk To China, Batla House, Katti Batti, Dry Day, and more.
