Nikkhil Advani Reflects On John Abraham-starrer Vedaa’s Poor Box Office Performance: ‘It was not what…’

Director Nikkhil Advani’s movie Vedaa was one of the three films released this year on Independence Day (August 15). At the box office, the John Abraham-starrer clashed with Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree 2 and Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein. Vedaa underperformed at the ticket window while Stree 2 emerged as the box office winner. In a new interview, filmmaker Nikkhil opened up about Vedaa’s poor box office performance.

Starring John Abraham and Sharvari in lead roles, Vedaa was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 60 crore. However, the Nikkhil Advani directorial collected Rs 20.25 crore in India. In a latest interview with Hindustan Times, Nikkhil reflected on Vedaa’s box office debacle.

“It was not what I wanted or expected. But Sharvari got incredible love for Munjya and Vedaa, while John was finally taken seriously as an actor… [so] I feel very happy,” he said. And while Vedaa didn’t work well, Nikkhil’s web series Freedom at Midnight opened to thunderous feedback from the masses.

In the same conversation, Advani opened up about the positive reception for Freedom at Midnight. It premiered on November 15 on SonyLIV and OTTplay Premium.

“The response to Freedom… has been gratifying. Friends, colleagues and people who otherwise watched it reached out to me. They send me messages like, ‘My grandfather was there at the partition, or my father kept talking about it,” shared Nikkhil.

On the work front, Nikkhil made his directorial debut with Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Preity Zinta’s Kal Ho Naa Ho. Some of his directorial projects include Salaam-e-Ishq, D-Day, Chandni Chowk To China, Batla House, Katti Batti, Dry Day, and more.
