With just one day left until its grand theatrical release, all eyes are on the War 2 Box Office performance. The clash between superstars Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR has generated immense hype, but after a surprisingly sluggish start, the advance booking numbers are finally telling a clearer, more complicated story.
While the film has picked up pace recently, the initial projections have been re-evaluated, suggesting an opening day that is solid but falls short of the colossal expectations initially set for the action extravaganza.
War 2 is gearing up to hit the big screens on August 14, alongside Rajinikanth’s Coolie. Hours before the release of the film, the makers shared a new promo featuring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani. Along with the asset, Yash Raj Films (YRF) also requested fans who catch early shows not to share spoilers online.
This has raised the cinegoers’ anticipation for War 2. The movie makers shared the message with the caption, “When #War2 begins, your mission is to keep the secrets safe! Say no to spoilers.” The video promo has now gone viral on social media.

War 2 Box Office Prospects
War 2 is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. Produced by YRF and directed by Ayan Mukerji, War 2 is the sixth chapter in the Spy Universe, after Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan and Tiger 3. Hrithik Roshan reprises his role of Agent Kabir while Jr NTR marks his Bollywood debut in War 2. Kiara Advani is also playing a pivotal role in the actioner.
The advance booking for War 2 commenced on August 10. While the pre-sales began on a lukewarm note, the film’s collection registered a sudden surge on August 12 after the tickets for the Telugu dubbed version of the movie went live. Owing to the popularity of Jr NTR and the appeal of the genre, the War 2 collections saw a significant boost.
Despite the recent pickup, the overall advance numbers are still below the blockbuster levels many had predicted. In a surprising turn, the final advance sales for War 2 are tracking to be lower than its 2019 predecessor, War—a scenario few in the trade could have imagined. Consequently, the opening day forecast has been adjusted.
While experts initially pegged the first-day collection in the massive ₹50 to ₹60 crore range, the film is now realistically heading towards an opening day of around ₹38 -40 crores in the Hindi belt. This revised figure is respectable but significantly tones down the initial hype.
The Road Ahead And The Holiday Factor
The film’s performance in the coming days will be critical. The big Independence Day holiday on Friday, its second day in theatres, provides a massive opportunity for growth. The ultimate box office trajectory of War 2 will now heavily rely on strong audience word-of-mouth. If the content clicks with viewers, the film could see huge jumps on the holiday and throughout the weekend, potentially compensating for the lower-than-expected start and still reaching a blockbuster total.
