Big Budget, Small Pay? NTR Jr’s Body Double Exits War 2, Exposes Bollywood’s Backstage Inequity

Eshwar Harris walks out of Ayan Mukerji’s War 2, citing pay so low it wouldn’t cover travel—turning a blockbuster’s buzz into a bigger conversation about Bollywood’s broken backend.

In an industry obsessed with size, star power, and billion-dollar box office returns, it is sometimes the smallest cracks that reveal the biggest truths. This time it is not a director or actor walking out; it is a body double. And not just any body double—Eshwar Harris, the body double of NTR Jr—one of the biggest superstars in India.

Eshwar apparently walked away from Ayan Mukerji’s War 2, a film conceived as a romping pan-India espionage epic with Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani. And why did he leave? Pay so small, it could not buy a flight.

Industry’s Pay Paradox: Budget in Billions, Basic Needs in Crisis

According to reports, Eshwar was asked to double for NTR Jr in some action scenes that were for the Telugu segment. But the amount offered was, according to him, “shockingly low”. In a post on social media, which is presently beginning to go viral, Eshwar claims:

“The amount they offered wouldn’t cover my flight. To be honest, I make more doing Telugu films. If Bollywood has the biggest budgets, why doesn’t that allow the basics for crew compensation?”

This is not just a complaint—it’s a callout. A chink in the gaudy metal facade of the Bollywood blockbuster economy, where crores are thrown at VFX, vanity vans, and campaign virality—but the stunt crews, tech crews, and the behind-the-scenes soldiers are scrambled to the leftovers.

War 2: Losing Capital? Now Losing Face

After Ayan Mukerji’s War 2, which has been touted as one of the most anticipated films in the YRF Spy Universe as a post-Pathaan and post-Tiger 3 film and featuring Jr NTR’s Hindi cinema debut, it doesn’t make sense to continue with production.

And now instead of more headlines about when production is starting to ramp up or more information on casting, the conversation is about the moral business practices of the industry and the pay gaps within business practices. A ₹300 crore film and no budget for a few basics?

South vs Bollywood: Two Industries, Two Cultures

What is more revealing is Eshwar’s pointed comparison:

“I earn better in Telugu cinema. They even respect the little roles.”

This is a sentiment that will be whispered across the industry, but in terms of putting it on record, he offers a stark conclusion. While Bollywood is magnanimously flaunting its ambitions globally, it is slowly trailing behind an industry that is more adroit, easy, and fair behind the scenes.

BoxOfficeWorldwide Verdict:

When a body double turns down a mega-banner actioner over dignity and respect, it’s not a scheduling conflict. It’s a crack in the credibility of the machine. War 2 might still win the weekend. But if the industry doesn’t wake up to its back-end ecosystem, the war for talent will be lost long before the camera rolls.
