Ranveer Singh‘s action thriller Dhurandhar is not just breaking box office records in India. The film has now sparked a response from across the border. Pakistan’s Sindh government has announced a new film titled Mera Lyari, which it claims will counter what officials are calling negative propaganda against the Lyari area of Karachi.
The announcement was made on Saturday, December 13, by Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. He shared posters of the upcoming film on social media and directly addressed Dhurandhar in his post. The minister criticized the Aditya Dhar directed film, alleging that it portrays Lyari in a negative light.
What The Sindh Minister Said
In his social media post, Minister Memon stated that Dhurandhar is yet another example of negative propaganda by the Indian film industry against Pakistan, especially targeting Lyari. He wrote that Lyari is not violence but instead represents culture, peace, talent, and resilience. The minister announced that Mera Lyari will release next month and aims to show what he called the true face of Lyari, focusing on peace, prosperity, and pride.

This response has added a new dimension to the conversation surrounding Dhurandhar. The film is inspired by real life events and crime syndicates operating in Karachi’s Lyari area. It presents a fictionalized account of India’s fight against terror in Pakistan. While the movie has been praised in India for its scale, performances, and storytelling, its subject matter has touched upon sensitive geopolitical issues.
Dhurandhar’s Box Office Domination Continues
Despite this controversy, Dhurandhar continues to dominate the Indian box office. The film is racing towards the Rs 300 crore club domestically and has received praise from audiences and celebrities across the country. The Ranveer Singh starrer has become one of the biggest blockbusters of 2025 and shows no signs of slowing down.
The film boasts an ensemble cast that includes Ranveer Singh in the lead role, alongside Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, Manav Gohil, Danish Pandor, Saumya Tandon, and Gaurav Gera. Director Aditya Dhar has been widely appreciated for his vision and execution of this ambitious project.
