Parineeti Chopra, who recently announced her decision to pursue a full-fledged career in music along with acting, has revealed that she will be singing around 15 songs for her next film Chamkila, directed by Imtiaz Ali and co-starring Diljit Dosanjh.
Chamkila is a biopic of the controversial Punjabi folk singer Amar Singh Chamkila, who was known for his provocative lyrics and rebellious attitude. Parineeti will play his wife and fellow singer Amarjot Kaur, while Diljit will essay the role of Chamkila.
Parineeti Chopra says she signed Chamkila because she got to sing 15 songs
Parineeti, who has previously sung for her films Meri Pyaari Bindu and Kesari, said that one of the main reasons she signed Chamkila was because of the opportunity to showcase her musical talent. “One of the main reasons I did this film was because I was getting to sing some 15 songs for it. It was during this film that my co-star Diljit heard me sing and told me to pursue live performances. Everyone around me used to constantly put this thought in my head that I could be on stage,” she told ETimes.
The music of the film is composed by AR Rahman, who has collaborated with Imtiaz for films like Rockstar, Highway and Tamasha.
Parineeti Chopra on handling two careers as a married woman
During the conversation, Parineeti also spoke about pursuing two careers while also starting her new life as a married woman. “I want to pursue two careers at the same time. It is an exciting challenge to take. I will work hard. I am getting into the skin of a musician and learning more about the world of concerts. I don’t want to ruin it by overthinking. I am just going to juggle it. Personally, I have a different mindset from other actors. All these things are just a part of my life and not my entire life. My family, friends, holidays, scuba diving, music, husband, career and health are all important and equal in my life,” she said.

Chamkila teaser out
