Pati Patni Aur Woh Do: Ayushmann Khurrana Calls Mudassar Aziz’S Film A Throwback To Timeless Family Entertainers

Ayushmann Khurrana is leaning into nostalgia, and this time he is doing it with a full-blown comedy of errors. As the actor gears up for the theatrical release of Pati Patni Aur Woh Do on May 15, 2026, he has described the film as a return to the kind of clean, character-driven humour that once defined some of Hindi cinema’s most beloved family entertainers.

Ayushmann Khurrana On Reviving Old School Comedy

Speaking about the film, Ayushmann said Pati Patni Aur Woh Do is “a situational comedy in its purest, most classic form.” He added that the idea traces its roots to “the legacy of Sanjeev Kumar” and recalled how films from that era found humour through “misunderstandings, timing, and character dynamics.”

The actor also cited classics such as Padosan, Chupke Chupke, Angoor and Gol Maal as key inspirations for the tone he admires. “They are a laugh riot and I’m hoping Pati Patni Aur Woh Do will also be the same for people,” he said.

Ayushmann reserved special praise for director Mudassar Aziz, saying, “With this film, Mudassar Aziz has crafted something that carries forward that spirit of clever writing in cinema that celebrates comedy of errors beautifully.” He further called the project “an out and out family entertainer meant to be enjoyed together,” adding that it is “a throwback to a time when storytelling was simple, clean, and genuinely funny.”

That positioning gives the film a clear identity in a market often dominated by scale-heavy spectacles and high-concept genre swings. From Ayushmann’s own description, Pati Patni Aur Woh Do appears to be chasing something more classic, a crowd-pleasing comedy built on writing, confusion and emotional simplicity.

What The Film Is Bringing To The Table

Pati Patni Aur Woh Do is directed by Mudassar Aziz and stars Ayushmann Khurrana alongside Sara Ali Khan, Wamiqa Gabbi and Rakul Preet Singh. The film is backed by T-Series and is set up as a theatrical family entertainer. Going by the film’s promotional pitch and Ayushmann’s comments, the story is designed around spiralling misunderstandings and ensemble-driven comic chaos, keeping the premise firmly rooted in the comedy of errors tradition.

Ayushmann Khurrana’s Recent And Upcoming Work

Ayushmann’s recent screen run includes Anek, Doctor G and An Action Hero, all of which released in 2022, followed by Dream Girl 2 in 2023. Among these, Dream Girl 2 emerged as the strongest commercial performer and marked an important rebound in his theatrical journey.

Looking ahead, Pati Patni Aur Woh Do is now one of his immediate confirmed theatrical releases for 2026. His filmography listings also show Udta Teer and Yeh Prem Mol Liya among announced titles, while Thamma released in 2025. At this stage, Pati Patni Aur Woh Do stands out as the film that reconnects Ayushmann with the warm, accessible middle-class humour that has often worked best for him on screen.
