Director Prakash Jha has big plans for two of his most iconic franchises, Gangaajal and Raajneeti. After years of anticipation, the filmmaker has confirmed he is working on Gangaajal 3, tentatively titled Dharamkshetra, and a sequel to his political drama, Raajneeti.
However, fans hoping to see Ajay Devgn or Ranbir Kapoor reprising their roles might be in for disappointment.
Gangaajal 3 Script Ready, Raajneeti 2 To Pick Up Where First Part Left Off
Jha revealed that the script for Gangaajal 3 is ready and will introduce a new storyline. “It’s not an extension of Gangaajal but a fresh story about a head constable,” he explained to mid-day.
The film will delve into the complex relationship between the police force and society, capturing the dilemmas they face.
Meanwhile, Raajneeti 2 will pick up where the original left off, exploring the political legacy and the character arcs of its ensemble cast. “The second part is an extension of the first movie. Samar Pratap [Ranbir Kapoor’s character] has gone abroad, but he is part of the story,” Jha shared, adding that the plot structure is already in place.

But will Ajay Devgn or Ranbir Kapoor return for the next parts? Jha’s answer was less optimistic. “I cannot say anything about repeating the cast,” he shared.
Citing the challenges of dealing with today’s talent management ecosystem, he revealed, “A decade ago, you could meet the actor directly, narrate the story, and convince them. Now, actors don’t read scripts themselves. Their assistants and managers do, and you have to go through multiple layers of management to even reach them.”
Jha also mentioned he hasn’t been in touch with Devgn or Kapoor, as both are tied up with numerous projects. “If there is a project, they will be contacted, but I am not in regular contact with them,” he said.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the original stars, Jha remains confident in his vision for these sequels. Both Dharamkshetra and Raajneeti 2 aim to expand on the compelling narratives that made the originals so successful.
