The much-awaited biopic Phule, starring Pratik Gandhi and Patralekhaa, is finally set to hit cinemas on April 11, 2025. The release date aligns with the 197th birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, making it a fitting tribute to one of India’s most revolutionary social reformers.
Produced by Dancing Shiva Films, Kingsmen Productions, and Zee Studios, Phule has been directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Ananth Mahadevan. The film highlights the inspiring journey of Jyotirao and Savitribai Phule, the 19th-century trailblazers who championed education, equality, and social reform.
Makers Announce Release Date Of Phule
Sharing an update, Zee Studios wrote, “On this birth anniversary of Savitribai Phule, India’s first woman educator, Dancing Shiva Films, Kingsmen Productions and we are coming together to announce the worldwide release of the film Phule in cinemas on April 11th, 2025, which marks the 197th birth anniversary of Jyotirao Phule.”

Pratik Gandhi celebrated for his performances in Scam 1992 and other works, steps into the role of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule. Patralekhaa portrays Savitribai Phule, a pioneer who broke barriers to advocate for women’s education.
The couple’s story revolves around their efforts to establish India’s first school for girls in Pune in 1848 and their fight against caste and gender discrimination during British colonial rule.
What The Film’s Team Said
Director Ananth Mahadevan called the film a “humble tribute to a great son and daughter of India.” He added, “This isn’t just a historical narrative; it’s an emotional journey back in time. The Y-generation especially needs to watch it, as it touches upon aspects of history that textbooks barely skim.”
The first poster for Phule was revealed last year on Jyotirao Phule’s 196th birth anniversary. It drew praise for its artistic take on the couple’s enduring legacy. With visually stunning cinematography and compelling storytelling, the film promises to shine a spotlight on its transformative contributions to society.
Patralekhaa expressed her pride in bringing Savitribai’s story to life. “She, alongside Jyotirao Phule, laid the foundation for modern education and social equality in India. Announcing the release on her birth anniversary feels poetic. I hope audiences feel inspired by their extraordinary courage.”
Mahadevan emphasised the film’s balance between historical accuracy and emotional depth. “We’ve stuck to the facts but ensured the story resonates on a personal level. It’s a call to recognise their sacrifices and the values that continue to shape our society today.”
