CBFC Trims Nudity And Adds Adult Warning To Robert Pattinson Starrer Primetime Before India Release

Just days before its India release, Primetime has found itself in the spotlight for more than Robert Pattinson’s presence. The film has been cleared for Indian cinemas with an A certificate, but only after the Central Board of Film Certification directed multiple changes, including a visual cut and an adult-viewing warning at the start. That late intervention has quickly turned the title into one of the more closely watched Hollywood releases of the week.

Cbfc Orders Visual And Audio Changes

The certification was completed on September 22, with the board clearing Primetime after asking for two obscene words to be muted and 7 seconds of frontal nudity visuals to be removed. An adult-content warning was also inserted at the beginning to alert viewers to the film’s sensitive theme and disturbing visual material.

The final certified runtime is 110.15 minutes, which translates to 1 hour, 50 minutes and 15 seconds. With an A certificate now in place, the film is arriving in Indian cinemas clearly as an adults-only theatrical release. Its India rollout is being handled by PVR Inox Pictures.

A Provocative Story At The Centre Of The Film

Directed by Lance Oppenheim, Primetime is adapted from Luke Dittrich’s 2007 Esquire article Tonight on Dateline This Man Will Die. Pattinson plays Chris Hansen, the NBC journalist associated with To Catch a Predator, the controversial television format that drew suspected online child predators into decoy operations filmed with hidden cameras.

That premise gives the film an unsettling charge, and it also explains why the India certification has drawn immediate attention. A story this combustible, paired with explicit imagery and disturbing thematic material, was always likely to invite close scrutiny before release. That same edge has also fueled wider curiosity around the film beyond the certification conversation.

Venice Premiere Added To The Curiosity

By the time Primetime reached Indian censors, it was already carrying the weight of a major festival launch. The film premiered in competition at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, giving it a prestige sheen before its commercial rollout and adding to the intrigue around Pattinson’s latest choice.

Alongside Pattinson, the cast includes Skyler Gisondo, Merritt Wever, Matthew Maher, Phoebe Bridgers and Anna Faris. The Venice launch helped frame Primetime as more than a conventional star-led release, and that context makes the censor changes in India feel even more notable as the film heads into theatres.

Robert Pattinson’s Recent And Upcoming Work

Primetime arrives at a point when Pattinson has been steadily gravitating toward directors and stories that push against safer star vehicles. In 2025, he starred in Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17, a major studio release that underlined his taste for offbeat mainstream cinema. He also featured in Die, My Love, continuing his run of intense, auteur-led projects.

That recent trajectory is part of why Primetime is drawing added attention in India right now. Pattinson has built a screen run defined by ambitious and often unsettling material, and this film fits squarely into that lane with its provocative subject and now-censored theatrical release. He also has The Odyssey on the horizon, but for the moment, Primetime stands out as the project bringing his risk-embracing choices into the sharpest focus for Indian audiences.
