Rajkummar Rao is about to dive into a new genre with his next film, directed by Pulkit, best known for Bhakshak. The film, set to go on floors in September 2024, will see Rao stepping into the role of a gangster for the first time. This marks a significant shift as Rao explores action for the first time.
Rajkummar Rao As Gangster In His Upcoming Action Film
Sources close to the project revealed to Pinkvilla that Jay Shewakramani, renowned for hits like Jaawani Jaaneman and Freddy, is producing the film. The story will be heavily rooted in Uttar Pradesh, with the bulk of the shooting scheduled to take place there, followed by some scenes in Mumbai.
“It’s an out-and-out commercial entertainer featuring Rajkummar Rao as a gangster. The filmmakers plan to shoot extensively in Uttar Pradesh and some portions in Mumbai,” said the source.
The film will also feature a fresh romantic track with Manushi Chhillar, who is making her debut alongside Rao. This addition is expected to bring a new dynamic to the action-packed storyline.
Film To Go On Floors In Septembers & Release In Mid-2025
Rao is reportedly excited about the role and will begin his preparations with readings and workshops in early September. The film is expected to hit theatres in mid-2025, promising a larger-than-life portrayal of Rao in his new avatar.
“The makers are planning a theatrical release in mid-2025. The shoot will take place over a 2-month period starting from September. The storytelling has a very commercial pallet, and will feature Rajkummar in a rather larger-than-life avatar,” said the source.
On the work front, Rao is gearing up for the release of Stree 2, directed by Amar Kaushik, which will hit screens on Independence Day. He will also be seen in Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, set to release on Dussehra.
