Ram Charan Teams Up With Sanjay Leela Bhansali For Ambitious Historical Jungle Adventure Drama

Ram Charan has lined up one of his most intriguing projects yet, a Sanjay Leela Bhansali-backed historical jungle adventure drama that brings together a star known for commanding spectacle and a filmmaker synonymous with grandeur. The collaboration instantly stands out, not just for the names involved, but for the unusual genre blend of history, action and wilderness adventure.

This development also carries the weight of a second chance. Charan and Bhansali had earlier explored adapting Amish Tripathi’s The Legend of Suheldev, but that film did not go on floors. Their new project now gives the actor-producer pairing a fresh creative route, this time through an original world built around a historical adventure setting.

How The Bhansali Project Took Shape

The film is being mounted in Hindi, with dubbed versions planned in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada. The story first emerged from material written by KV Vijayendra Prasad for Rowdy Rathore 2. When that version did not move forward, writer Durgesh Singh reworked it into a period jungle adventure drama.

The project was then reshaped with Ram Charan at its centre, giving the film a more tailored star vehicle identity. Bhansali is producing, while the director has not been officially announced yet. That combination alone makes the film a notable addition to the current slate of large-format Indian productions, especially because it moves away from standard action territory and leans into a more atmospheric historical setting.

The timing is equally significant for Bhansali. As he balances his directorial Love & War, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, he is also expanding his producing slate with titles that carry strong theatrical potential. This Ram Charan film fits squarely into that moment, signalling Bhansali’s interest in backing stories beyond his own directorial universe.

Ram Charan’s Recent And Upcoming Work

For Ram Charan, the Bhansali production arrives at a stage when his career is firmly anchored in event cinema. His most recent release was Game Changer, directed by Shankar and co-starring Kiara Advani, which hit theatres on January 10, 2025. Before that, he featured in RRR in 2022, SS Rajamouli’s global blockbuster alongside Jr NTR, and in Acharya the same year, where he shared screen space with Chiranjeevi.

That makes his upcoming slate especially important. Charan’s next confirmed theatrical release is Peddi, directed by Buchi Babu Sana and co-starring Janhvi Kapoor, Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu and Divyenndu. The film is scheduled to release in June 2026. With Game Changer behind him, Peddi on the horizon and now a Bhansali-backed historical adventure in development, Charan is clearly building a line-up designed around distinctive worlds, scale-driven storytelling and strong theatrical pull.
