A red carpet in traditional Indian festive wear, a 3D screening at the Academy Museum, and a 945-guest house packed with Hollywood figures, filmmakers and international press, Ramayana is preparing for a Los Angeles launch that is as ceremonial as it is cinematic. The Nitesh Tiwari directorial will hold its world premiere on October 27 at the David Geffen Theatre, giving the film a high-wattage international unveiling just days before its theatrical rollout begins.
The Diwali-season styling of the event adds a distinctly Indian flourish to a major Hollywood venue. Guests have been asked to arrive in traditional festive attire, turning the premiere into both a film showcase and a cultural statement as the makers introduce the epic to a global audience.
A Major Global Showcase For Ramayana
The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is one of Los Angeles’ most visible film institutions, and the David Geffen Theatre has hosted several major industry events over the years. For Ramayana, premiering there places the film in front of an influential room that extends far beyond a standard fan-first launch.
Directed by Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, Ramayana has been designed as a two-part cinematic event. The cast is led by Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana and Sunny Deol as Hanuman, with Ravi Dubey, Anupam Kher, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Vivek Oberoi, Kunal Kapoor, Adinath Kothare, Arun Govil, Indira Krishnan and Lara Dutta rounding out the ensemble.
Release Plan And Film Details
The first part of Ramayana is scheduled for a worldwide release on November 5, 2026, with the second chapter lined up for Diwali 2027. The film will release in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, and is also positioned for an IMAX run. Sony Pictures is handling global distribution outside India, while Dharma Productions is backing distribution in the Hindi-speaking market.
That staggered two-part strategy is central to the film’s scale. Instead of compressing the story into a single feature, the makers are building Ramayana as a long-form theatrical franchise, with the Academy Museum premiere functioning as the first major international showcase for that larger ambition.
Ranbir Kapoor’s Recent And Upcoming Work
For Ranbir Kapoor, the Los Angeles premiere arrives at a key moment as Ramayana moves from anticipation to execution. After the commercial force of Animal in 2023, this film now becomes one of the biggest releases of his current phase, and the Academy Museum launch gives his next screen outing an unusually prominent global platform before its November 5, 2026 theatrical debut.
